Camp Staff Employment
K-12 Teachers
We are very pleased to offer the following summer opportunity for ALL elementary, middle and high school teachers. As a Team Lead, you will be learning and leading activities focused on introducing children to engineering concepts. It is a fun, collaborative environment where staff apply what they learn about engineering in a sustained informal-educational setting.
Team Leads will assist the program by offering feedback and ideas while supervising approximately 10 (elementary or middle school) or 12 (high school) students, providing mentoring, team facilitation and behavior management, while collaborating with other Team Leads.
The engineering education skills learned and practiced will be a tremendous asset in the future for engaging students in more traditional classroom settings and for developing various STEM-integrated academic lesson plans. Applicants should be interested in learning how to use engineering problem-solving methodology to facilitate academic connections in their classrooms. They should be highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals, interested in hands-on activities, and able to work well with peers and children.
Stipend Rates of $900 include time spent preparing for camps, at training and in the camps. Daily camp hours run approximately 8:30am until 4:00pm. Additional time may be required before and after the daily camp session. We are not limiting teachers to selecting camps based solely on the grade levels that they currently teach.
In partnership with area school systems, each Team Lead should provide a 1 hour professional development in STEM and The Engineering Design Process to teachers in their system. Support and materials will be provided by the UCPLC staff. For completion of all parts of the training, camp, and professional development, school systems may provide CEU credit.
Undergraduate and High School Students
Assistant Camp Leads (Volunteer Service Hours)
Lead and provide support for Team Leads. Prime source for communicating completion updates and providing input to staff performance to camp administrative leadership. Assist with preparing materials for hands-on engineering challenges, escorting campers between rooms and buildings, assisting with daily camper drop-off and pick-up process, Friday camp closing events and camp facility upkeep.
Teachers interested in any of the positions may request an application from the camp director at sdvarnell@ncsu.edu.
