With a new virtual tour experience, NC State’s McKimmon Conference and Training Center is opening its doors long before guests arrive.

Located in the heart of the Research Triangle on the campus of NC State, the McKimmon Center hosts educational conferences, professional development programs, workshops and other academic gatherings throughout the year. The facility supports organizations ranging from campus departments and private companies to statewide associations, often welcoming visitors who have never been to the building before.

To help planners and attendees better understand the space ahead of arrival, DELTA partnered with the McKimmon Center to create an immersive virtual tour experience that allows users to explore the event venue remotely.

The result is a navigable digital walkthrough that lets visitors preview the building’s versatile meeting spaces.

“Our virtual tour allows clients to explore our spaces and room layouts while showcasing the flexibility we offer for a wide range of events. It helps guests visualize their event with us before booking,” said Executive Event Specialist Carmen Dunn.

Supporting Better Planning Decisions

Event planning often depends on details that are difficult to visualize from photos or floor plans alone. Organizers need to understand flow, layout and scale early in the process, but coordinating in-person visits can be challenging for busy teams or out-of-town groups.

Planners can now move through the building online, view individual room sets and see how rooms connect to better determine space needs. The experience also helps first-time attendees become familiar with the environment, reducing confusion and improving overall event readiness.

Staff can now also guide clients through spaces remotely, answering questions in real time while both parties view the same environment.

From large conferences to small team workshops, the virtual tour gives planners and attendees a head start before they ever set foot in the building. For the McKimmon Center, that means fewer surprises, better-prepared guests and more events that go exactly as planned.

“The virtual 3D tour helps clients better visualize themselves and their guests in the space, increasing their confidence in the venue and supporting a more efficient planning process,” said Executive Event Coordinator and System Administrator Carrie Bjorkquist.
